Dr. Rebecca Young

I’ve always been drawn to the practical, team-based side of medicine — solving problems, working alongside others, and supporting patients at important moments in their lives. After graduating from the University of Melbourne in 2002, I worked in orthopaedic surgery, emergency medicine, trauma surgery, and sports medicine. These roles taught me how to stay calm, think clearly, and work effectively within a clinical team, especially in high-pressure environments.

I began surgical assisting in 2009 alongside my sports medicine practice, and soon realised how much I enjoyed working in the operating theatre. I transitioned to full-time surgical assisting in 2017, and it has been the most rewarding chapter of my career.

Today, my clinical work is focused on being the assistant surgeon in orthopaedic procedures, including shoulder and upper limb, hip and knee, trauma, and bone and soft tissue tumour surgery. My role is to provide surgical support, clinical judgement, and technical assistance to the primary surgeon, while contributing to a safe and efficient operating theatre.

I’m a member of the Medical Surgical Assistants Society of Australia (MSASA), and I’m proud to be part of the surgical team caring for you.
